About the author

Photographer, journalist and teacher. With a Soviet Zenit camera, some coins and a bag with more illusions than clothing or food, Kaloian began to backpack around Cuba at the age of 18. Photography and journalism then appeared as a necessity and forever became his form of commitment.

Born in Holguín, Cuba, in 1981. Graduating in 2008 as a journalist from the University of Havana, Kaloian continued his studies for a diploma in documentary photography at the University of Buenos Aires and the School of Photojournalism (ARGRA). In 2002, he won the "Roberto Carri” International Fellowship and later completed his Masters in Documentary Journalism at Argentina's National University. His first book of photography, CON LUZ PROPRIA, was published by Editorial Abril (Havana) in 2012 and in 2013 by Ocean Sur.
