An absoluter Grösse stehen die Epidermiszellen denen des Grundgewebes stets nach. Sehr gering ist dieselbe z. B. Bei Rubus odoratus; in den meisten Fällen setzt die Epidermis sehr deutlich gegen das Grundgewebe ab, in nur geringem Grade ist dies der Fall bei den Nadelhölzern.
