Diesel engines are facing with increasingly stringent emission legislation for more than a decade. Diesel engines are used for automotive application because they have lower specific fuel consumption and superior efficiency compared to the SI engines. Despite of these advantages NOx and particulate emission from the diesel engine have caused serious environmental problem. In conventional diesel engines, because the fuel is injected into the cylinder, spatial distribution of air fuel ratio in the combustion chamber varies widely from rich to lean.
