The world is presently confronted with the twin crisis of easily accessible fossil fuel depletion and environmental degradation. Indiscriminate extraction and lavish consumption of fossil fuels have led to reduction in underground-based carbon resources. The search for alternative fuels, which promise a harmonious correlation with sustainable development, energy conservation, efficiency and environmental preservation, has become highly pronounced. The increasing industrialization and motorization of the world have led to a steep rise for the demand of petroleum-based fuels. These fuels are obtained from limited reserves and are highly concentrated in certain regions of the world. Therefore, those countries, which do not have these resources, are facing energy and foreign exchange crisis, mainly due to the import of the crude petroleum oil. Fast depletion of easily accessible fossil fuels is demanding an urgent need to carry out research work to find out viable alternative fuels for I.C. engines.
