International efforts to combat trafficking in arms have a long history and goes back to the time of the League of Nations. During the Cold War , major international cooperation to combat international trafficking of arms was directed to issuing non-binding statements that did not actually work.According to the article 3 of the INTERPOL Statute which prohibits the Organization from any intervention and combating against activities of a political , military, religious or racial nature , it should be pointed out that in INTERPOL combating international arms trafficking , this operation should be devoid of any military , political , religious or racial nature.Although combating international trafficking of arms clearly has not been declared as one of the six global priorities of INTERPOL , but so far concreted efforts have been done by the Organization to help law enforcement officers to better deal with transnational issues related to the misuse of arms.
