Hieronymus gibt das Lebensjahr an, in dem Hilarion die Wuste bezog (erat autem tunc annaram quindecim), bezeichnet die Stelle genau, wo er sich aufhielt (sie lag südwärts vom siebenten Meilenstein der Strasse, die von Majoma, dem Hafenorte von Gaza, nach Ägypten führt) und schliesst dann diesen Teil des Berichts mit den Worten: cumque essent cruenta latrociniis loca et propinqui amicique eins immi neus periculum den untiarent, contempsit mortem ut mortem evaa'eret.2)
