The term phytodontics depicts use of plants and their extracts in dentistry. Ayurveda, the oldest medical science originating from Indian subcontinent, has been practiced since the 12th century BC1. Its objective is to accomplish physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being by adopting preventive, health promoting and holistic approach towards life. Ayurveda Is the science that developed as human evolved. Ayurvedic medications have stood the test of time and since time immemorial been used for various ailments.Recently there is renewed interest in use of various Ayurvedic drugs for oral and dental health. Following the advent of modern medicine, herbal medicine suffered a setback, but during last two or three decades, advances in phytochemistry and in identification of plant compounds, effective against certain diseases have renewed the interest in herbal medicines. Primitive medicine is timeless. The dentist need to be more informed regarding the use, safety and effectiveness of the various traditional medicines and over-the-counter products

I am Dr. Vishakha Singh, M.D.S 2nd year student at the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Subharti Dental College, Meerut. I have completed my graduation from the same college in the year 2013. I am involved in the research work in the field.
