YKL-40: A chitinase family protein is known to be associated with inflammation. The role of single nucleotide polymorphisms in CHI3L1 gene on asthma susceptibility and YKL-40 levels has been widely investigated on different ethnic groups, and contradictory results were obtained on susceptibility allele. In the present work, surface plasmon resonance technology and polymerase chain reaction based methods were utilized for estimation of protein levels and genotyping. Our outcomes strongly suggest an association of YKL-40 levels with asthma severity and a probable association of CG genotype at rs4950928 promoter region of CHI3L1 gene with elevated YKL-40 levels and asthma susceptibility.
