This new little book for literature enthusiasts unites Mueller-Stahl's talent for painting with his gift for writing and playing music. The Blue Cow is a colorful book of watercolors and charcoal on paper drawings based on the quirky ballad of the same name about an independent-minded cow who drinks up her own milk first, and then herself. Mueller-Stahl wrote and sang the piece, which, at second glance, proves to be a heavily symbolic fable, already fifty years ago. The symbolism of the Blue Cow that engulfed itself, was also understood by the GDR authorities-who were not at all amused.
About the author
Armin Mueller-Stahl, geb. 1930, ist nicht nur einer der erfolgreichsten deutschen Schauspieler überhaupt, sondern auch ein begnadeter Geiger, Maler und Erzähler. Bevor er zum Schauspielberuf wechselte, absolvierte er ein Geigen- und Musikwissenschaftsstudium, das er 1949 mit dem Examen zum Musiklehrer abschloß. Seit 1952 avancierte er mit unzähligen Theater- und Filmrollen zu den bekanntesten und beliebtesten Schauspielern der DDR. Als Mitunterzeichner der Petition gegen die Ausbürgerung Wolf Biermanns erhielt er ab 1976 keine Engagements mehr, verließ 1980 die DDR und setzte seine Karriere nicht nur in Westdeutschland, sondern auch international erfolgreich fort. Seit langem ist Armin Mueller-Stahl auch als Erzähler bekannt.
