Excerpt from A Practical Tabular Summary of French Pronunciation: Applied to the Analysis of All the Sounds Occurring in French Words
We claim, in this small work, to have reduced all the sounds that occur in French to ten comprehensive Tables, each of which, by their application to words, will enable the student to overcome several difficulties without memorizing absolute rules.
The sounds of French words are not illustrated until the learner has become familiar with the same in their most simple forms. Instead, therefore, of giving a series of words after each sound, one general exercise is placed after the Tables all the words of this exercise being analyzed, in reference to the vowel-sounds and consonants. It will be seen that, owing to this method, the student can easily ascertain the pronunci ation of a French word without the help of a teacher.
