Das Wrack eines Dampfers, welches an der Südspitze der Halb insel Sinai auf einem Korallenriff steckt und nur mehr mit einem Theile des Buges und einem Mast aus dem Wasser ragt, macht einen ernsten Eindruck. Die traurigen Trümmer regen die Phantasie schaurig an. Man glaubt das Heulen des Sturmes, das Brüllen der See zu vernehmen, deren thurmhohe Wegen das arme Schiff erbarmungslos an den Felsen geschleudert hatten. Was mag die Bemannung gelitten, welch grausige Schreckensseenen mögen sich abgespielt haben!
