Description

This volume comprises five articles dealing with different aspects of parody in medieval and early modern literature. Carmen Cardelle de Hartmann focuses on paratextual alignment of texts which opens up parodistic possibilities in the 'Carmina Burana', Nikolaus Henkel offers a new comparison of Latin and vernacular parodies, their prerequisites and their audiences. Seraina Plotke presents a new reading of 'Helmbrecht' as a hybrid text of parodistic quality, combining and transforming established narrative models of epic and lyric. Stefan Seeber and Eva von Contzen establish the paratextual framework of the 16th century German and English 'Aithiopika' translations as parodies which contribute to the ongoing debate about the emerging poetics of the novel.
