This book deals with the value addition of nettle fabric for the UV protection properties. The demand for UV protective textiles has been increasing day by day as UV radiation has been causing various health problems including tanning, sun allergies skin aging and skin cancer. Nettle fabric is a product of nettle plant (Girardinia diversifolia) that is found in abundance in Himalayan region of the Indian subcontinent as well as other continents also. Nettle fabric is an ecofriendly fabric as nettle plant does not requires any pesticides to flourish like cotton.This book mainly comprises the weaving and natural dyeing of nettle fabric for efficient UV protection properties. The present study may be useful for designing and development of products such as hat, curtains and blinds for UV protection using nettle fiber and natural colorants. This book comprises the reviews about the health hazards of UV rays, UV protection properties of fabric, nettle and natural dyes specifically madder and cutch dyes. The detail processes of weaving and dyeing of nettle fabric has been included.The effect of weaving and natural dyeing on the UV protection proprieties has also been discussed.

Deepti Pargai belongs to Uttarakhand,India.She is a Senior Research Fellow and pursuing her PhD in Clothing and Textile at G.B. Pant University of Ag & Tech., Pantnagar,India. Aspiring to utilize the abundantly available nettle plants in the textiles to enhance its potential as a sustainable source of Livelihoods for weaker section of the society.
