Paroles de chien

Publié initialement en 1930, Paroles de chien est un récit raconté à la première personne par un chien appelé Botte, un aberdeen terrier comme celui que possédait Kipling. Contrairement aux autres animaux « anthropomorphisés » par Kipling dans ses Histoires comme ça ou dans les deux Livres de la Jungle, si le héros canin de ce livre à l'humour très anglais peut parler, il possède un vocabulaire simple et n'est pas capable de comprendre ce qu'il observe.
Avec une pointe d'ironie innocente, Kipling nous permet de voir le monde à travers les yeux de notre plus fidèle compagnon, et nous révèle une fois encore toute la verve de son talent de narrateur. On dit souvent de son animal domestique qu'il ne lui manque que la parole. Avec Thy Servant a Dog, Kipling a enfin réparé cette injustice !
