La guerre de 14 est aussi l'affaire des femmes.
Elles se mobilisent, s'affichent, suscitent des peurs.
Comme l'écrit Michelle Perrot dans sa préface,
les hommes, bloqués au front, «redoutent d'être
trompés, usurpés, renversés par ces femmes qui,
dans leur dos, pénètrent le secret de leurs affaires et
de leurs métiers. Ils ont peur d'être dominés, possédés
par celles qui les soignent comme des enfants». Ce
livre, l'un des premiers à avoir pensé la guerre à
partir des femmes, raconte de manière saisissante
ce qui changea et ce qui ne changea pas au coeur
de la société française des années 1914-1918.
