Penser, c'est ressentir. Et c'est à une expérience
intime, intuitive, des sens et des
formes, de l'espace et du monde que nous
invite Walter Benjamin dans cet essai de
1939 qui reste son texte le plus populaire. Le
philosophe y montre comment l'invention de
la photographie et surtout celle du cinéma,
en rendant possible la reproduction massive
des oeuvres d'art, ont précipité le «déclin
de l'aura», formule désormais célèbre pour
un concept devenu central dans l'histoire de
l'art et la philosophie esthétique, l'aura d'une
oeuvre étant l'effet de sa présence unique,
liée à un lieu précis et inscrite dans l'histoire.
À travers cette crise esthétique, c'est de notre
société qu'il nous parle, une société où chacun
a le droit d'être un héros et de peser sur la
vie de la cité, mais une société qui doit aussi
réinventer l'espace intime, le rapport au passé
et au futur - et même l'authenticité.
