Entre 1787 et 1840 le Royaume-Uni et ses colonies connaissent une longue lutte entre partisans et opposants de la traite des esclaves et de l'esclavage. C'est ce combat, souvent intense, parfois violent, qu'étudient les contributions françaises et internationales réunies dans cet ouvrage.
