Fifty years after Sputnik, artificial satellites have become indispensable monitors in many areas, such as economics, meteorology, telecommunications, navigation and remote sensing. About the author
Dr. Michel Capderou is a lecturer at the University Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC) in undergraduate astronomy courses and graduate level spatial mechanics/astrodynamics courses. He is also a researcher at the Dynamic Meteorology Laboratory (LMD) at the École Polytechnique, where he works on the preparation of satellite missions and IXION software.
