Even at this early age he discovered a special inoli nation to the natural sciences. When only ten years old be procured a human skull, and without any aid except what he obtained from pictures and books, he separated and re-adjusted its several bones.

During his academic course, while pursuing the classics and the higher branches of English education, he continued to distinguish himself. He ranked al ways with the best scholars, and if he had several rivals, it is probable he had not a peer in our schools.
