In this paper reasons for burnout in surgeons are discussed, as well as different interventions to prevent and intervene burnout. More specifically the different types of interventions are discussed; individual-directed, organization directed and a combination of both. The review of many papers shows that a combination of both individual- and organization directed is the best strategy to prevent and intervene burnout.
