Summary
The Assault on Teacher Education analyzes the damaging effect that the application of neoliberal, market-based principles has on university-based teacher education programs. It maps how these effects then negatively influence both public K-12 education and larger university systems. From the role of standardized testing to the attack on teaching as a profession, these interventions undermine the goals of critical, multicultural, and democratic pedagogies. Grounded in current research, written by both union activists and scholars, and supported by personal examples, this book provides teacher educators with the context they need to reflect on their experiences and the tools they need to reclaim agency.
