Each chapter starts with a brief introduction and goes on to describe the organism's morphology in detail, followed by a brief note on classification and lastly illustrated examples of stratigraphically important organisms through time along with their major distinguishing characters. The book includes over 3000 clearly labelled, hand-drawn and classroom-friendly illustrations of over 1200 species.

About the author

Dr. Sreepat Jain is a professor at the Department of Geology, Adama University, Ethiopia He has 16 years of teaching and over two and a half decades of research experience, and has also established a new Petroleum Engineering department. He has two doctorates, one from India and the other from United States, and was also awarded the "TA Excellence in Teaching" for meritorious teaching in the United States. Prof. Jain has also received The Paleontological Society of India's prestigious "Prof. S. K. Singh Memorial Gold Medal" for best paper and the DST-DAAD Fellowship. His areas of integrated research include Jurassic ammonites and nannofossils, Jurassic to recent foraminifers, and the use of biotic and abiotic proxies for deciphering paleoenvironments. He has published several research articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals and has authored two books of which The Fundamental of Physical Geology (Springer) has been recommended for Undergraduate Earth Science semester courses at several American universities. Prof. Jain is also a reviewer for several national and international geoscience journals.
