NO apology is necessary for introducing a selection from Hofi'mann's T ales from Histom'. The pure and easy style, the impressive and pathetic descriptions, the well-su stained interest, combined with the author's power of enlisting the sympathy of his readers, are in themselves sufficient excuses for their publication. In addition to this, being short and independent of one another, in schools where but little time is devoted to the language, the necessity of breaking off in the middle of a Tale at the end of the term will be obviated.
