The 17th century was the Golden Age of the North German organ school.
The big cities Hamburg and Luebeck boasted of magnificent organs and
famous composers, like Buxtehude, Reincken and Tunder. However in the
small city of Husum the hugely talented Nikolaus Bruhns was the titular
organist and he issued a collection of 17 organ works, now known as the
Husumer Orgelbuch, preserved in the Royal Library of Copenhagen.
? The Husumer Orgelbuch contains works by Druckenmüller, Zeyhold, Zinck
and Bruhns himself.
? Played on two magnificent historical organs: the Schnitger organ (1721)
of the Sint-Michaëlskerk in Zwolle and the famous Hinsz organ (1733) in
the small town of Leens, both in the northern part of the Netherlands.
? Italian organist Manuel Tomadin is a specialist in this repertoire. He
wrote the excellent liner notes on the music, extensive descriptions and
the full specification of both organs.
