There remains for me the duty of expressing my thanks to many helpers and friends. In the first place, to the Early English Text Society and its Director, Dr. Furnivall. The E. E. T. S. Had a copy of the Fairfax ms. Of Reason and Sensuality taken, which made it possible for me to begin work on the book before I started for England. Further, the Society was good enough to undertake the cost of copying several other mss. In English libraries, at Paris and at Dresden, which seemed to me necessary for this edition. To Dr. Furnivall personally also I am indebted for the constant encouragement and kindness which he shewed me during my visits to England. My friend, the Rev. S. C.
