Patrick Kavanagh nacque presso Inniskeen, in Irlanda, nel 1905 da una famiglia di piccoli agricoltori. Nella sua poesia rivive l'Irlanda delle cose semplici, degli oggetti quotidiani, dei paesaggi rurali e del lavoro nei campi; importante è anche la tematica religiosa. Il poeta morì a Dublino nel 1967. Il curatore Saverio Simonelli traduce 41 poesie tratte da "Collected Poems".
