The soil of the experimental field was clayey in texture, low in available nitrogen (169.43 kg/ha), medium in available phosphorus (31.73 kg/ha), fairly rich in available potassium (359.53 kg/ha) with pH 7.8. Almost all the growth, yield attributes and yield such as plant height (30, 60 DAS and at harvest), number of cobs per plant, number of grains per cob, cob length, shelling percentage, seed index, grain and straw yields were significantly influenced by various levels of fertilizer and organic source treatments. Application of 100% RDF + FYM @10 t/ha (T2) recorded significantly higher grain (4.18 t/ha) and straw yields (8.99 t/ha). While lower grain and straw yields were recorded with control (T6). But different treatments failed to express any significant influenced on harvest index in maize. Thus from the present study, it seems quite logical to conclude that to obtain higher economical production from rabi maize and maintaining soil fertility, the crop should be applied 100% RDF along with FYM @10 t/ha under south Gujarat condition.
