About the author
Joyce Dunbar was brought up in an industrial steel town in the north of England, one of four children. She spent several years teaching, mostly literature to adults. When Joyce was thirty-five, she realized that having always wanted to be a writer, she didn't have to wait for permission -- she just had to do it! Amazingly, her first book was immediately accepted and she has now published seventy books since. Some of her books include, "Mundo and the Weather-Child", a novel short listed for the Guardian Children’s Fiction Award, "Shoe baby" (illustrated by her daughter Polly) and the Panda and Gander series.Polly Dunbar studied illustration at Brighton Art School and now lives and works in London. She is the daughter of the distinguished author Joyce Dunbar (who she worked with on "Shoe Baby") and is the author/illustrator of "Flyaway Katie", "Penguin" and "Dog Blue". Some of the books she has also illustrated include, "The Dragon Test", "Here’s a Little Poem" and "Lucy and the Firestone". She is known for her bold use of bright flat colour and she thinks colour is a brilliant way to cheer yourself up, and whenever she’s feeling grey, she puts on her best pink frock and paints!
