Klappentext For myriad reasons, more and more parents are choosing to educate their children at home--and not just in the United States. In recent years, home education has grown to become an established phenomenon around the world. The Wiley Handbook of Home Education is a comprehensive collection of the latest scholarship about all aspects of home education in the United States and abroad. Featuring contributions from top international academic researchers and scholars, readings serve both to synthesize the existing literature in the field and set an agenda for avenues of future study. Initial chapters emphasize themes relating to home education in the United States, examining its decades-old roots, historical development, and current demographics. Topics explored include legal issues, parental motivation, academic achievement, higher education, home-schooling of minority populations, and many more. Chapters in subsequent sections cover home education in Canada, Europe, the South Pacific, Africa, Asia, and other regions of the world. Particular attention is given to legal issues and the ways other countries and regions have produced home-educational experiences both similar to and different from those of the United States. Authoritative and illuminating, The Wiley Handbook of Home Education sheds important new light on a dynamic alternative educational movement begun in America that is rapidly spreading to all corners of the globe.
