Based on the notions of a cultural history-orientated media history, the essays in this volume show various perspectives of how historical learning can succeed with the aid of historical newspapers. These are especially suitable for use as source material for history classes because they address a wide variety of aspects of the topics covered: In addition to the classic political-historical perspective, they allow in-depth processing of historical issues dealing with the economy, society, everyday life, culture, and history of mentalities. Alongside questions concerning the selection of materials and areas of thematic focus, the authors elucidate the problems associated with the domain-specific competences that can be promoted by using newspapers in history lessons.
