About the author










Marc Silberman is the author of Heiner Muller: Forschungsberichte zur DDR--Literatur (Rodopi, 1980) and Literature of the Working World: A Study of the Industrial Novel in East Germany (H. Lang, 1976). A professor of German at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he earned his Ph.D. from Indiana University.


Summary

This text presents the history of the German cinema through close readings of films representing five major periods: Weimar cinema, cinema in the Third Reich, postwar cinema, East German cinema, and the New German cinema.
