This captivating collection is a condensed board book version of "Mother Goose: A Sampler, " first published in 1996 for the benefit of the Parent-Child Mother Goose Program, which uses Mother Goose rhymes to support parenting. Sixteen children's illustrators donated artwork to the original collection; each was given free rein to respond to these age-old rhymes, with wonderful results. Artists include Kim LaFave, Philippe Beha, Barbara Reid, Mark Thuman, Gary Clement, Marie-Louise Gay, and Norman Cousineau interpreting such timeless favorites as "The Man in the Moon," "Hey Diddle Diddle," "The Moon Is Round," "Over in the Meadow in the Sand in the Sun," and others.


About the author










Celia Barker Lottridge is a writer and storyteller who has written several highly acclaimed children's books, including Ticket to Curlew (winner of the Canadian Library Association Book of the Year for Children Award and the Geoffrey Bilson Historical Fiction Award), Berta: A Remarkable Dog (nominated for the Texas Bluebonnet Award, Horn Book starred review) and Stories from the Life of Jesus (Publishers Weekly starred review). She wrote Home Is Beyond the Mountains after hearing her mother's stories about growing up in Persia and after reading letter's written by Celia's aunt, Susan Shedd. Born in Iowa and raised in the United States, Celia now lives in Toronto.


Summary

Many of Canada's best-loved children's book illustrators generously agreed to donate artwork to this collection, each choosing a Mother Goose rhyme to illustrate. The artists were given free rein to respond to these age-old rhymes. The
remarkable inventiveness and rich variety of the art is proof positive of the vast talent of these illustrators.

This wonderful collection is a condensed board-book version of Mother Goose: A Canadian Sampler, first published in 1994 for the benefit of the Parent-Child Mother Goose Program. Established in 1986 to introduce mothers and fathers who need support in parenting to the joys of play and language as exemplified by the Mother Goose canon, the program continues to be an exciting and innovative approach to developing parenting skills. Royalties from sales of this book will go to the Parent-Child Mother Goose Program (www.nald.ca/mothergooseprogram/).
