A multi-disciplinary,facetted and dimensional text with the potential to contribute towards achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDG's) and leading into the Sustainable Development Goals(SDG's), particularly in countries where land is readily available for development. Jos Metropolis, Nigeria has been chosen as a focus of this book as it exemplifies the problem of urban sprawl in most developing Cities even though master plan as a development control measure could not.Urbanisation and its related problems can be controlled effectively using appropriate planning approaches in regions of both developed and developing countries. The components of institutional framework, specifically, the three tiers of government (Federal, State and Local Government Areas), planning legislation and the administrations are constrained. The urban planning system in the Jos metropolis is not effective in ensuring controlled urban development and management. This Book recommends that the Spatial Planning frameworks and Guidance Documents developed could be used in the control of urban development and management in most urban areas of most developing countries in Africa and Asia
