During the early stages of dentistry, periodontitis was considered as a disease of the oral cavity, but advancement in the field of periodontitis shows that periodontal pathogens has a greater role in the different stages of a women's life. It has been associated with changes in the oral cavity when a female reaches puberty, during pregnancy and menopause. These changes are due to the hormonal changes during each stage.
