Después de presenciar el rapto de su mujer en Central Park, el agente especial del FBI Aloysius Pendergast persigue desesperadamente a los secuestradores por el país hasta llegar a México. Douglas Preston (Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1956) es miembro de la Royal Geographical Society y colaborador habitual de The New Yorker. Además trabajó durante ocho años como editor y director del servicio de publicaciones del Museo de Historia Natural de Nueva York y ha dado clases en la Universidad de Princeton. Actualmente vive en Maine con su esposa y tres hijos. Douglas Preston es coautor, junto con Lincoln Child, de la aclamada serie de novelas protagonizadas por el agente Pendergast, todas ellas publicadas por Plaza & Janés y Debolsillo.
