La Maison de Bernarda Alba

À la mort de son mari, Bernarda décide, pour marquer le deuil, que ses filles ne sortiront pas de leur maison pendant huit ans. Ce huis clos se déroule dans l'âpre atmosphère du Sud de l'Espagne où, entre censure et anathème, les femmes sont recluses et l'amour est frappé d'interdit. Jalousie, hargne, désirs et passions s'exacerbent. Un homme hante les rêves des cinq soeurs. Il doit épouser l'aînée mais la plus jeune s'éprend de lui : telle est la bombe qui explose au milieu des rivalités, des frustrations et des perfidies. Lorca devait mourir, exécuté, deux mois plus tard, tandis que le pays s'enfonçait, pour de longues années, dans le mutisme, dans ce silence réclamé par Bernarda Alba de la première à la dernière réplique. La chape qui s'abat sur la « maison » à la chute du rideau devient dès lors allégorique de tout un pays bâillonné. Et, par-delà l'Espagne et la voix du poète, elle accuse les préjugés et le fanatisme qui emprisonnent la conscience humaine et poussent au néant.
Cette tragédie, jouée sur les scènes du monde entier, est entrée en 2015 au répertoire de la Comédie-Française.
