Global standards of chess are improving all the time - there are now over 20 International Grandmasters in Britain alone, and this number increases annually. The author attributes this progress to improvement in the playing strength of young players, nurtured on a highly competitive tournament circuit and provided with expert coaching. This entertaining and instructive book uses the author's own tried and tested training methods and is ideal for any player in the 100-160 BCF (1400-1900 ELO/USCF) grading range. With plenty of general advice for tournament competitors, this book covers all phases of the game, includes dozens of practical illustrative examples and is ideal for the improving player.

About the author

Nigel Povah is an International Master at over-the-board play and Grandmaster at correspondence chess who has taught chess in schools, Adult Education classes and by individual tuition. His past pupils include Grandmaster Daniel King and several other leading players.
