In diesem Buch wurden 250 Plakate der prästalinistischen Sowjetunion der 1920er- und 1930er- Jahre zusammengetragen, um zu erkunden, welche Energie und Erfindungsgabe in dieser Zeit herrschte, bevor der Sozialistische Realismus zur offiziellen Kunstdoktrin wurde. Die Auswahl mit Arbeiten von 27 verschiedenen Künstlern stammt aus der Privatsammlung der Expertin Susan Pack. Einige Entwürfe setzten auf architektonische Elemente, andere wählten gewagte Layouts. Jeder Künstler hatte einen eigenen Stil, doch allen gemeinsam war das Bestreben, Hollywoodglamour durch stärkere, dynamischere, herausforderndere Bilder zu ersetzen, die oft von ungewöhnlichen Blickwinkeln und verstörenden Nahaufnahmen geprägt sind.
About the author
Susan Pack arbeitete nach ihrem Studium in Princeton zehn Jahre lang in der Werbebranche, zuletzt als leitende Werbetexterin bei Saatchi & Saatchi in New York. In den 1970er-Jahren begann sie seltene Werbeplakate zu sammeln und hat so eine der weltweit bedeutendsten Filmposter-Sammlungen der russischen Avantgarde aufgebaut.
