There has been significant increase in number of people suffering from superficial and invasive fungal infections.Fungal nail infections (Onychomycosis) are one of the most common fungal infections in everyone. Treatment of fungal nail infections is done using econazole and fluconazole antifungal agent available as creams. Recent studies indicate that creams are more effective than oral therapy, providing fast relief from symptoms. Econazole is available as aqueous topical cream with high fungicidal activity is better than Fluconazole tablets. The present study aims to form microemulsion of drug enhance bioavailability and gel form which adheres to the epidermis of the nail and increases the residence time of gel to provide better absorption.
