When War Is Over

1.7 million Commonwealth War dead from the First and Second World Wars are commemorated individually and by name, on graves and memorials in 153 countries throughout the world. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission maintains these, responding to queries from relatives, updating records, tending to the landscape and repairing or replacing worn and damaged headstones. When War is Over investigates this process through archival material and through photographs of the maintenance and construction process.

About the author

Andrew Haslam ist Absolvent des Royal College of Art. Seit seinem Abschluss 1987 entwirft er in seinem Londoner Studio naturwissenschaftliche, historische und geografi sche Sachbücher für Kinder und erhielt 1994 den American Institute of Physics Award für die beste naturwissenschaftliche Publikation. Neben seiner publizistischen Tätigkeit lehrt Andrew Haslam an mehreren britischen Universitäten Grafikdesign und Typografie. Seit sechs Jahren leitet er den Studiengang Kommunikationsdesign am Londoner Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design und ist Autor mehrerer Bücher zum Thema Grafi kdesign, Typografie und Buchdruck.
