We all have a basic intrinsic value determined by God at the time of creation and as a confirmation, Jesus stated that humans as the apex of God's creation has more value than animals and for that reason God even cares more about us.

From this point on, it is the responsibility for all humans to add to this basic intrinsic value conferred on us at the time of creation to increase our worth, which will enable us to stand out of the crowd. Ever heard of this statement, "It is crowded at the bottom"? It would therefore take adding value to yourself to stand out of the crowd.

On the basis of this, Dr Appiah draws principles from different disciplines of personal development, including management, biological science, religion (Christianity), psychology and others for increasing our worth through adding value to ourselves.
