Urbanisation is a dynamic ecological process, replacing natural ecosystems by destroying and modifying original landscapes and communities and creating new ones. In adequate housing, necessities for storage of water, inadequate and polluted water supply, and lack of sewage and waste disposal create substrates are also favour the occurrence of many insects and rodents. Apart from their direct damage, they also act as vectors of many zoonotic diseases to humans and animals. Insects like bedbugs, cockroach, houseflies, termites, mosquitoes cause numerous damage to houses and causes nuscence. Apart from feeding they damage householdings by their excreta and act as breeding reservoirs for many pathogens. Management practices like habitat manipulation, destruction of their food sources, sanitation, cleanness, frequent washing, drying of materials are some of the commonly following practices to escape from these insects.

Dr. S. Sambathkumar belongs to Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. He received ICAR-JRF for his M.Sc. (Ag) and completed his Ph.D. (Agrl. Entomology) in TNAU with INSPIRE fellowship sponsored by Department of Science and Technology. His research span is across Insect bio-ecology & biotechnology, Integrated Pest Management & Pesticide Residue Analysis
