The volume assembles a large number of reviews, including annual reviews and review essays, covering over a hundred books and articles as well as over twenty volumes of new scholarly editions. It provides the most detailed record and summary of Browning's reception during this period.

About the author

The Author: John Maynard, Professor of English at New York University, is author of Browning's Youth, winner of the Thomas J. Wilson Prize given by Harvard University Press, as well as author of numerous articles on Robert Browning and Victorian literature. From 1982-1993, he was annual reviewer of works on Robert Browning for Victorian Poetry. Professor Maynard has held a Guggenheim Fellowship and an XEII Senior Research Grant.
Other books by Professor Maynard include Charlotte Bronte and Sexuality and Victorian Discourses on Sexuality and Religion. He is co-editor of Victorian Literature and Culture.
