George Sand's "Nouvelles" - Reflections, Perceptions and the Self

Reflections are frequently seen in literature. They often reveal the character's inner self to the character as well as the reader. Taking this revelation a step further, Dr. Blair analyzes George Sand's use of the reflective technique in the psychological development of the principal characters in five of her Nouvelles: La Marquise, Lavinia, Metella, Mattea and Pauline .

The Author: Lisa M. Blair is Assistant Professor of Foreign Languages at Shaw University. She received her Ph.D. in French Literature from Florida State University. In addition, she has written and presented extensively on George Sand's works, including Mauprat.
