The Quality of work life (QWL) as a HR intervention has gained significance in the USA and Scandinavia during the 1960s -1970s. The impact of computer technology and increased automation led to a greater alienation dehumanization and de-skilling. The concept quality of work life was first explored in 1972 during an international labor relations conference. It received more consideration after UA worker and General Motors initiated a QWL program for work reforms. QWL is a process by which a business responds to employee needs by developing mechanisms to allow them to share fully in making the decisions that design their lives at work QWL environment factors affect health system performance. QWL environment is fundamentally an outcome of strong and effective leadership skills. In a quality work place the management ensures and facilitates goal alignment, trust and commitment, cooperation and teamwork, problem solving and effective dispute resolution. HR is considered as the most basic strategic resources of every organization. The importance of human capital in advancing the strategic goals. This book presents conceptual frame work of QWL.
