Summary

Clergyman, schoolmaster and writer on aesthetics, William Gilpin (1724–1804) published a series of works recording his observations on the picturesque across British landscapes. This publication, which appeared in 1782, was the first of these and describes his travels along the River Wye and into South Wales.
