The failure mechanism of Al 8011 thin plates has been investigated experimentally. The specimens have been prepared as ASTM E1922 standard.Experimentation have been carried out on single edge notched(SEN) tensile testing with varied plate thickness, notch size and materials conditions. The results shown that the failure specimen is mainly because of combination of tensile, bending and twisting loads. The load carrying capacity of double and off axis notched specimen is greater compare to single ENT specimen. The effect of age hardening and coating on the load carrying has also been studied. The fractographic examination also been studied to determine the natures of failure with respect to notch size, orientation, plate thickness and material conditions.
