The purpose of this book is to identify challenges facing developing countries with regard to dispute settlement mechanisms and propose recommendations on how these challenges can be addressed. This book is important especially at this moment where more than two thirds of WTO Members are developing countries. It is important for negotiators and policy makers from developing countries to understand the challenges they are facing and accordingly suggest feasible improvements pertaining to the WTO dispute settlement system. With such an understanding, the participation of developing countries is likely to increase in the dispute settlement process. This work is also relevant to all developing countries WTO member states that have not utilized the dispute settlement mechanism to enforce their rights and legitimate expectations. The research will offer member states an opportunity to examine the structure of the DSU and possible reasons behind the lack of participation. The study is of particular interest because the future of developing countries international trade lies in her capacity to negotiate with her WTO counterparts.
