Estudió leyes en la Universidad salmantina, y dedicado poco después de terminar su carrera de jurisconsulto, la politica, llegó á ocupar puestos de verdadera importancia, como fué, entre otros, el de Gobernador de Badajoz. Más tarde prestó sus servicios en la Secretaría de Estado, elevándose á la altura de los más insignes diplomáticos y al nivel de los más ardientes y distinguidos patri cios.
