Por conducto de una tia m�a, esposa del marqu�s de Sales, gestionaba yo la vuelta al ej�rcito. Poco recibi una carta, en que se me decia que S. M. Acceder�a � mi solicitud, nombr�ndome teniente del regimiento de Mur cia, que estaba en Ja�n; pero que al mismo tiempo se me presentaba ocasi�n de poder ascender m�s, si quer�a for mar parte del cuerpo de ej�rcito que, al mando del gene ral Morillo, se estaba preparando para darse � la vela en direcci�n al R�o de la Plata.
Casualmente el general Morillo formaba parte de las tertulias nocturnas que ten�a en Madrid mi t�a, habi�ndola ofrecido proteger � cualquier pariente de ella que le acompa�ase en la expedici�n.
